It Is Not Our Portion To Go Back To The Kitchen – Patience Jonathan

Following the comment of president Mohammadu Buhari about the place of his wife, the immediate past First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, who is known to posses a very strong character as she is always bold enough to air her views irrespective of who might be offended.
She has been known to be firm with her words, especially on issues that relate women and girls in the society

Recall that President Buhari, during a joint press briefing with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, had laughed off his wife’s statement that she may not support him if he runs again in 2019 saying:

    “I don’t know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room.”

The German Chancellor who was shocked by his comment prompted to give him a short glare and a laugh.

Former 1st lady, Patience Jonathan is known for her zeal in working towards promoting the rights of women and children, and she always spoke like a prophet, recall in December, 2104 during the Presidential campaign when she urged Nigerian women and girls to quit limiting themselves because of a long-existent status quo, clearly stating that it was wrong to relegate women to the kitchen.

    “Nigerian women should no longer go back to the kitchen. It is not our portion to go back to the kitchen.

    “We have women that are capable. We can contribute our quota to the development of Nigeria.”


Meanwhile, sequel to the the fiery criticism that has trailed President Muhammadu Buhari’s remark about the place of his wife, Presidential Media aide Garba Shehu, has taken to his official Twitter page to defend his boss, saying he was only joking.
According to him, 'the President respects women and believes in their abilities, citing the appointment of Kemi Adeosun, finance minister, as a demonstration of his regard for the women like.

According to several media sources, the German chancellor has mocked President Muhamadu Buhari over his response to his wife’s interview.
